Shift Manager

Department: Madison Production

Job Overview

A Shift Manager will be the Shift Leader for the day-to-day functions of their respective teams by managing associates and meeting the performance expectations based on planned output.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop team in the execution of the daily production plan.
  • Review production schedules and line capacity to make decisions concerning staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, with consideration for budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Develop goals, measures, & reports to support key objectives defined by leadership.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records.
  • Provide summary information/reports on KPI performance to manufacturing leadership.
  • Use technical expertise to identify solutions for problem-solving and improvement opportunities.
  • Protect and properly manage the company’s assets including plant, equipment, and inventory.
  • Regularly audit the systems execution and provide feedback/direction to the Supervisors on completeness and accuracy.
  • Evaluate the value stream and identify opportunities to eliminate non-value added steps in all manufacturing processes.
  • Works to ensure consistent safety and systems training, implementation, and compliance across all shifts.
  • Work closely with Q/A team and standards bodies (e.g. ISO-9001, ISO-14001) to ensure continuous compliance with ISO standards and requirements.
  • Set and monitor product standards, examining samples of raw products or directing testing during processing, to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality.
  • Identify, participate in, and lead Lean initiatives to drive continuous improvement throughout production environment.
  • Coach associates to achieve performance standards with regards to safety, quality and productivity.
  • Provide formal (appraisals) and informal positive and corrective feedback to associates on an on-going basis to manage performance.
  • Conduct shift meetings to communicate key information and to build group cohesion.
  • Promote good employee relations via sound business practices, employee involvement in process improvement, and strong communication.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of management.
  • Provide hiring recommendations for production-related positions.

Job Requirements

  • 4 year College Degree or equivalent education and work experiences
  • 5 years or more manufacturing experience in a Supervisory role
  • Knowledge of computer applications and functions

Skill Set

  • Must have a personality that lends itself to initiating and leading people to reach their fullest potential.
  • Computer literate (word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to work in a manufacturing environment and will be exposed to heat, noise and moving machinery, appropriate PPE should be worn.
  • Must be able to work 12 hour shifts.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk during full shift.
  • Frequently required to grip, use hands, reach and lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, stoop, crouch, and crawl.
