Design Coordinator

Department: Calhoun Product Development
Location: Calhoun , GA

Mission Statement: As a Mannington Associate, I am expected to conduct myself in a manner which supports the company’s values and philosophy, while performing in the best interest of my fellow associates. I am expected to contribute to our mission statement: to be the best people to do business within the flooring industry.

Summary: Plan, oversee and execute various elements of a project, based on the direction from Design Managers. Coordinate the activities and materials needed to make design ideas a reality. Design coordinators will work on a variety of projects, including research, presentations, basic visual display making, and light graphic design work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Product Support

  • Organization and maintenance of new product development samples
  • Development documentation
  • Mood/Concept boards to support the work of design direction
  • Create palettes for sales and marketing needs
  • Assist in color development
  • Create standard boards & Mock-up folders
  • Maintain yarn tools (books & boards) for the studio needs
  • Assist in naming exercises (collections, patterns and colorlines)
  • Contribute design concepts, as requested
  • Request samples for prototype development as necessary
  • Voice of the Customer appointments (for market feedback)
    • Assist in scheduling
    • Develop materials in presentation-worthy manner
    • Create surveys & tabulate results
    • Prepare analysis reports
  • New Product presentations (for proposals and launches)
    • author and deliver presentations (digital and in-person)
  • Trend research – report and present on design, pattern and color trends

Digital design support

  • Manage logistics of Visualizer Tool
  • Create digital pattern archive for internal use
  • Develop and maintain digital yarn banks for all design teams to access
  • Create and maintain Coordination Grids for all categories
  • Intro to Marketing presentations
  • Photography / room scene support
  • Occasional graphic design-focused projects
  • Contribute to development of floor layouts
  • Work with other departments to facilitate the design needs for trade shows, Atlanta Design Center updates & Commercial meetings, etc.

Other studio responsibilities

  • Plan and/or manage Design-hosted events on campus
  • Support the growth of a positive, creative office culture
  • Elevate the creative presence of Mannington Design Studio
  • Prepare design studio visits appropriately for our Behind the Craft guests
  • Maintain studio appearance
  • Maintain the running line, competitive and publication libraries
  • Develop and maintain top sales boards in Design studio
  • Assist in internal communication of design-related matters
  • Assist in shipping, receiving, retrievals and deliveries
  • Other responsibilities, as requested

The following skills would be essential for a Design Coordinator:

  1. Project Management
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
    • Familiarity with product development processes
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  2. Communication
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to create and deliver presentations
  3. Technical Skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite)
  4. Creative and Design Skills
    • Basic knowledge of design principles and trends
    • Basic photography skills for product and room scene support
    • Familiarity of, or interest in, multimedia tools (video, sound, lighting) is a plus
  5. Analytical Skills
    1. Ability to create and analyze surveys and reports
    2. Strong attention to detail for producing material that will be shared
  6. Interpersonal Skills
    1. Customer-focused mindset
    2. Ability to work collaboratively with different teams (e.g., Marketing, Sales, Design)
    3. Contribute to encouraging cultural growth at Mannington
  7. Problem-Solving
    1. Resourcefulness in finding solutions to meet project needs

Qualifications:

  • Be Creative
  • Bachelor’s degree in art or design related studies.
  • One to two years’ experience in art or design related field.

o Basic understanding of fundamentals of design:

§ grasp of design terminology

§ comfortable with color theory

§ problem solver

§ ability to work with (or be willing to learn) different mediums, machines and technology

§ ability to visualize

§ ability to research, analyze and present findings

  • Enjoyment of both technical and manual activities
  • Basic proficiency of standard programs/apps such as MS Office suite and Adobe Design Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
