Plant Engineering Manager

Department: Madison Engineering
Location: Madison, GA

JOB SUMMARY:

The Plant Engineering Manager provides technical knowledge along with communication, collaboration, and general management capabilities. The Manager will maintain a roadmap of planned and potential plant improvement initiatives. The role involves responsibility for the implementation and scheduled review of site projects and plans. Primary contact for project support and plant engineering execution. Defines work methodology, sets goals and priorities; provides site leadership and supervision for site engineering, instrumentation and controls, and overall performance of LVT plant operations. The Manager is responsible for delivering increased site capacity through leadership, capital projects and continuous improvement. The Manager orchestrates site technical resources to manufacture quality products. This includes maximizing the value from the existing assets and collaborating with engineering and maintenance to deliver reliability excellence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: include the following and other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Directs and inspects facilities for regulatory compliance. Assesses and monitors facility repairs to ensure cost effectiveness; establishes criteria for repair versus replacement of facilities
  • Lead the controls and operating system strategy for plant equipment. Assists Plant Mechanics and Electricians with equipment troubleshooting.
  • Plans, develops and prioritizes projects and weekly work plans; ensures that materials are ordered, projects are designed and planned, and budgets adhered to.
  • Coordinates and monitors status of work orders; estimates, requests, and purchases materials and equipment; and estimates labor costs
  • Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Tracks, analyzes and improves key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost & inventory, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.
  • Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
  • Coordinates activities with Plant Operations Departments.
  • Implements programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
  • Assists with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions.
  • Supervises shop operations include a variety of scheduled equipment set-up activities, preventive and routine maintenance activities.
  • Manages equipment maintenance requests.
  • Plant Security (Shut down/ Lock up), Interfaces with outside Security Company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position supervises Maintenance Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics, and Electricians. Manages SAP Time keeping. Ensures that Maintenance Technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner. Plans, develops and prioritizes projects and weekly work plans for the team; ensures that materials are ordered, projects are designed and planned, and budgets adhered to.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering required; 3-5 years proven experience in supervisory capacity in manufacturing, assembly, fabrication or production control environment preferred; Lean Manufacturing, 5S and/or 6 Sigma experience a plus

  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing equipment & processes, maintenance & repair, planning, scheduling; knowledge of rubber manufacturing industry a plus
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships at various levels of the organization; excellent leadership, teambuilding and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple activities concurrently in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • PC proficiency including: Microsoft Office Suite & SAP. CAD experience a plus
  • Must be able to work off-shift hours
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equipment and facility maintenance programs and procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of safety principles and practices
  • Technical knowledge and skills in working with Calenders, Presses, Steam Systems, Automated Packaging Equipment and other manufacturing equipment
  • Knowledge and experience with state and local safety, fire, construction, and public access regulations experience; an understanding of blueprints and building codes
  • Flexibility and ability to cope with several tasks simultaneously are required;
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to respond to emergency situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, in some cases extreme heat in certain areas of the manufacturing facility. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to: eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, etc. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate to loud depending on the area of the manufacturing facility.

  • May require strenuous lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, climbing, walking.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous chemical solutions
  • Exposure to extreme heat
  • On 24-hour emergency call.
