Shift Manager - 3rd shift ( 11 pm - 7 am)

Department: McAdenville Yarn Processing
Location: McAdenville, NC

Job Description – Shift Manager

Reports to: Plant Manager

Position Summary

The Shift Manager should prepare and distribute the personnel assignments and ensure that all job instructions and procedures are followed to reduce error and ensure a quality product. The Shift Manager should inspect working area during shift for any safety, quality or production problems.

Essential Functions

  • Perform duties in a safe manner utilizing all required personal protection equipment.
    • Eye protection
    • Hearing protection
  • Exhibit quality awareness to meet or exceed our customer’s expectations
  • Perform job in an efficient manner in order to meet our goals.
  • Be present and on time on scheduled workdays for the purpose of maintaining excellent customer service
  • Shift Managers should report to work at least 15-20 minutes prior to shift start.
  • Personify the company’s core values

Position Responsibilities

  • Patrol the floor and be on the lookout for potential quality problems. Support operators in quality assurance through helpful feedback.
  • The Shift Manager should check the status of the floor and obtain a copy of the twisting/Heatset schedule from the scheduling office
  • Make personnel assignments as necessary
  • Meet with the technician before shift meeting and plan change overs.
  • Hold beginning of shift meetings
  • Analyze, and review employee and equipment performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • When it is time for a change over, the supervisor should approve the machine set up and check to make sure the yarn has the proper identification as provided by the Cabler or Heatset Setup Sheet.
  • Be available to resolve any kind of interpersonal issues that employees may be having.
  • Approve payroll for employees on their shift. Keep up with employee attendance through electronic time system. Issue attendance disciplinary notices per policy.
  • Complete and submit the production reports, training reports, and daily waste reports for the responsible area.
  • Check time system to verify employee clock in/out and approve employee’s time. Enter any vacation or unexcused / excused time.
  • Perform any duties assigned by plant manager.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Standing - 7 hour on concrete floor
  • Sitting - 1 hour and 40 minute breaks
  • Climbing - may have to climb steps to enter or exit different departments or offices.
  • Moving - moves about in an area approximately 250’ X 50’ while performing duties 5 hours on concrete floor
  • Moving Materials – May have to push racks occasionally
  • Hearing/Speaking - must communicate by telephone - communicate with shipping clerks, operators, technicians and Plant Manager
  • Reaching - Occasionally
  • Visual Acuity - color vision required with minimum near vision to detect sub quality yarn
  • Bending /Stooping - Occasionally
  • Lifting - intermittent lifting up to 18 lbs.

Skills and Experience

  • Prerequisites Mandatory: Must be proficient using computer –
    • Microsoft Office skills required (Email, Excel & Word)
    • Must be able to read and write English proficiently
  • Preferred: H. S. or G.E.D. or equivalent experience
  • Good communications skills
  • Spanish language a plus
  • Working knowledge of SAP operation and systems a plus
