Maintenance Supervisor

Department: Madison Engineering
Location: Madison, GA

Reports to: Plant Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime)

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations of the facility (either Manufacturing or Finishing buildings), ensuring that all systems, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained in optimal condition. This role involves managing a team of maintenance technicians, coordinating predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. This is a working supervisor role, complementing the current team while supplementing personnel shortages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management:
    • Supervise and lead four (4) teams of maintenance technicians.
    • Schedule and assign tasks, provide training, and evaluate performance.
    • Ensure adequate staffing levels and manage shift schedules.
    • Support new product development initiatives/projects.
    • Assist Production personnel with non-routine problems with the operators of equipment.
    • Work with Planning and Production teams to determine when non-routine maintenance can be scheduled based on criticality of task and production.
    • Work in conjunction with Project Engineers to provide support for capital improvement projects as necessary.
    • Promote good employee relations via sound business practices, employee involvement in the process improvement, and strong communication.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of management.
    • Protect and properly manage the company’s assets, including plant, equipment, and personnel.
    • Manage the cross-training needs of Technicians.
    • Use technical expertise to identify solutions to equipment-related problems and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintenance Operations:
    • Execute the comprehensive preventive maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
    • Oversee and manage corrective maintenance activities, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure all systems and equipment are functioning correctly.
    • Prioritize the workload by utilizing outside resources.
    • Manage the completion of technicians’ weekly LOTO audits and period safety engagement.
    • Manage and document all contractors' work orders.
    • Lead the sourcing of parts with the leads and technicians.
    • Actively manage 5S activity in all areas.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry standards.
    • Conduct safety training for staff and enforce safety protocols.
    • Respond to emergencies, such as equipment failures or safety incidents, and coordinate appropriate responses.
  • Project Management:
    • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other departments as needed.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs.
    • Actively coach Tech’s and follow the documentation process for non-conformity with company policies, procedures, standard work, etc.
    • Ensure POs are sent before work is completed.
    • Communicate with the store room and purchasing personnel on receiving POs for service.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. An associate’s degree, diploma or technical certificates in related field is acceptable, or 2 - 5 years of experience in a combination of at least two of the following:
    • Plant Maintenance in a Lead/Supervisor Role
    • Equipment Manufacturing in a Lead/Supervisor Role
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Skills:
    • Journeyman-level skills in electrical and controls are required.
    • Mechanical knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
    • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Knowledge of maintenance management software (CMMS) and other tools.
    • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Other Relevant Requirements:
    • Must be available for scheduled on-call time.
    • Must be able to fill in for absent technicians until a replacement is on-site.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM), HVAC certification) are a plus.
